Addressing the changing landscape for EU clinical trials

With the advent of new European regulations, as well as the introduction of innovative research methods and technologies, the clinical trial landscape is fast evolving. 

EORTC will be hosting two events in September, addressing the topics of new EU regulations and new research methodologies in clinical trials:

Navigating Safely through the Regulatory Triangle: (Clinical Trials – In vitro Diagnostics – Data Protection) is a one-day course, which examines how the various elements of these regulations come together, and their potential impact on clinical research. It is targeted at: regulatory specialists in (bio)pharma; representatives of patient advocacy groups; and any other person with an interest in clinical trial regulations and drug development competitiveness in Europe.

Innovation and Biomarkers in Cancer Drug Development (IBCD), a first-of-a-kind joint meeting by EORTC, NCI, EMA, and AACR explores the complexity of new cancer drug and biomarker development requirements. European Health Forum Gastein, Demographics and Diversity in Europe - New Solutions for Health

The EHFG provides a platform for discussion on which various stakeholders from the field of health policy-making come together to discuss the next steps for a healthier Europe. Over the years, the conference has become the leading annual health policy event in the EU. This year, it is time for the 19th European Health Forum Gastein: “Demographics and Diversity in Europe - New Solutions for Health”. Europe faces unprecedented demographic change, and new solutions are needed to maintain sustainable health systems. Some of the underlying trends are: increased life-expectancy; changing fertility patterns; and internal and external migration. Increased momentum in antimicrobial resistance research
01 September 2016 (The Lancet)

Working against pathogenic microbes in a globalised world is a matter of self-interest at least as much as a responsibility to our neighbours. Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is responsible for an estimated 700 000 deaths annually worldwide. The review on AMR, commissioned by the British Government and chaired by Jim O'Neill, estimates that, if current trends continue, annual fatalities from drug-resistant microbes could rise to more than 10 million by 2050, exceeding deaths caused by cancer.

'Not out of the woods yet' in yellow fever outbreak in Angola, Congo: WHO
01 September 2016 (Reuters)

Some 6,000 people in Angola and Democratic Republic of Congo may be infected with yellow fever, six times the number of confirmed cases, but no new infections have been found since July 12, an "extremely positive" trend, the World Health Organization said on Wednesday.
