Research and Innovation: Horizon 2020 expert advisory groups appointed
07 November 2013 (European Commission Press Release)

This week the European Commission announced the appointment of 15 groups of independent experts to advise on priorities for Horizon 2020, the next EU research and innovation programme. According to the 5 November press release, "the advisory groups are the most diverse yet, drawing on public, private and civil society sources." Horizon2020 funding will support projects that make use of research and innovation to improve the lives of European citizens, including the second Innovative Medicines Initiative (IMI2).

Britons invited to post their genomes online for science
07 November 2013 (Reuters)

Yesterday saw the launch of the Personal Genome Project UK, an initiative seeking 100,000 British volunteers to post their genetic information online as part of an open-access DNA project. Participants, who would submiti the information on a totally voluntary basis, would have the chance to contribute to science and discover more about their own genetic profile. However there are some ethical issues at stake, and many researchers have urged caution. This Reuters article looks at both sides of the argument.
