IMI and the EU-AIMS project - paving the way for new treatments for autism

This past Wednesday, 2 April, was World Autism Awareness Day. Around 1% of children are diagnosed with autism spectrum disorders (ASD), yet there are currently no drugs designed specifically to treat their main symptoms. Working to change this is the EU-AIMS project, which is supported by the Innovative Medicines Initiative. A joint undertaking between the European Union and the pharmaceutical industry association EFPIA, IMI is Europe's largest public-private initiative aiming to speed up the development of better and safer medicines for patients. This video elaborates on the progress being made in Autism research by EU-AIMS, one of IMI's many projects.

First EU Summit on Chronic Diseases
04 April 2014

The first EU summit on chronic diseases was held in Brussels from 3 - 4 April, bringing together policymakers, stakeholders and interest groups to explore ways to address chronic diseases effectively in the EU. The summit will develop conference conclusions and a set of policy recommendations for action, clarifying how the medical, social and economic burden of chronic diseases should be tackled in the European Union now and in the years to come.
