The global debate surrounding the cost of the new hepatitis C drug Sovaldi is symptomatic of the fact that the health policy debate is generally too limited. The subject is far more complex than it appears at first glance. It is too simplistic to criticise the pharmaceutical industry (once again) for constantly demanding higher prices for new drugs. It is also too simplistic to lambast the authorities because the Swiss Federal Office of Public Health's strict constraints mean only a small number of patients get access to the drug.
