The European Federation of Pharmaceutical Industries and Associations (EFPIA) represents the pharmaceutical industry operating in Europe. EFPIA is the voice on the EU scene of 1,900 companies committed to researching, developing and bringing patients new medicines that will improve health and the quality of life around the world.
The pharmaceutical industry is among the most highly regulated sectors in the world across all of its activities. EFPIA is therefore fully engaged with the EU and, through its member organisations, with Member States, in the discussions on the formulation, revision and implementation of regulation and EU legislation.

In addition, EFPIA is active in partnering in EU Research programmes, such as the IMI (Innovative Medicines Initiative), Europe’s largest public-private partnerships. We also work on corporate social responsibility initiatives with others healthcare stakeholders, such as patient groups and healthcare professionals. EFPIA has specialised committees and task forces focused on key areas of activity.
EFPIA also includes two specialised groups focusing on vaccines and biotechnology, respectively:
"Our industry is going through a period of unprecedented change, as well as coping with an economic crisis. In these times, it is all the more important that we demonstrate the value of our medicine to people’s lives, and the value of the industry to Europe’s economy. Also, we need to stay on course with our commitment to be more open, transparent and accountable in what we do."
