Ireland’s EU Council Presidency: Driving Europe’s Competitiveness in Life Sciences

As Ireland takes over the Presidency of the Council of the European Union, it is a timely opportunity to recognise the country’s remarkable contribution to Europe’s leadership in pharmaceutical innovation. The pharmaceutical sector accounts for 54% of Ireland's exports, supports more than 75,000 jobs across the island, and has become a cornerstone of both Ireland’s economy and Europe’s pharmaceutical ecosystem.

Over the next 6 months, the Irish Presidency will steer the Council’s work under three important priorities: competitiveness, values and security. At a time of growing geopolitical uncertainty and an increasingly competitive global race for leadership in biotechnology and life sciences, its drive will be instrumental in shaping Europe’s future.
