Impact on TB: Partnerships joining forces to combat TB Online
9 December 2025 | 14:00 – 15:30 CET | Online
TB is the most deadly infectious disease in the world. In 2024, the WHO estimates that 10.7 million people fell ill with TB and 1.3 million died from it. Strains that are resistant to current antibiotics are on the rise, which is why new therapies are urgently needed.
Join the IHI event on 9 December 2025 from 14:00 - 15:30 Brussels time and find out how a new treatment for tackling multi-drug resistant TB was developed through the IMI and the Global Health EDCTP partnerships.
Listen to Fuad Mirzayev, leader of the WHO's Global TB programme, set the scene and explain why the need for new antibiotics against TB is so pressing. And hear from the researchers who developed and trialled a new combination alpibectir/ethionamide treatment within three collaborative projects, each one including partners from a large variety of sectors and with wide-ranging experience.
