EFPIA Response to the publication of Political Guidelines for the Next European Commission 2024-2029

"We are pleased to see the ambition to support European life sciences through a dedicated life sciences strategy, included in the Political Guidelines and presented to the European Parliament by President von der Leyen earlier today. The dedicated life sciences strategy, which includes plans for a new Biotech Act, is an important part of the wider drive to boost European competitiveness over the next five years.

The key to achieving these goals will be the development of coherent and supportive policies and legislation, including the revision of the Pharmaceutical Legislation. We look forward to working with EU institutions to deliver a life sciences strategy that can transform Europe's competitivenessA thriving European eco-system for research and development will not only help Europe to stay globally competitive but can also drive health and economic resilience and ensure highly skilled jobs stay in the region.

We particularly welcome the ambition for Europe to be at the forefront of research into antimicrobial resistance (AMR), which will be critical to saving thousands of lives across Europe over the coming decades.

We look forward to working with the Commission and all political partners on these important priorities, which can benefit patients, health systems and our economies."
