President of the Melanoma Patients Association of Serbia.
I was born in Zemun in 1971, where I grew up. I graduated from the Faculty of Law of the University of Belgrade, and working as a lawyer. Unfortunately, I was forced into early retirement since March 2015 because of being diagnosed with melanoma.
In 2012. I was diagnosed with melanoma. For the first two years I was treated at Military Medical Academy, in Belgrade, where I has gone through many surgeries in order to remove subcutaneous metastases, which kept appearing. Finally, when melanoma became inoperable, treatment could not be continued in Serbia because at that time Serbian medicine didn’t offer anything better than chemotherapy. Luckily, I managed to get into a clinical study in Tübingen (Germany), where I am still successfully being treated.
The Serbian Melanoma Patients Association I founded in 2014. At first, things were going slow, but since the winter of 2015, the organization started working at full capacity, putting into practice all ideas and plans that were made before. Every May association is having a campaign in several cities whose goal is to display the problems of melanoma patients in Serbia, and, objectively, noticeable success was made. From autumn 2016, every year the association organizes a regional event dedicated to the problems of Balkan melanoma patients, where other patient advocates, doctors, and pharma representatives from the region attend. Of course, the organization continues to give direct support to its patients by listening and giving advice.
I am also the president of the Patients Association of Serbia, which I founded in February 2020.
The Patients Association of Serbia was accepted by all participants in the healthcare system immediately after its establishment. The main motivation for its foundation was to fight for more innovative medicines available to patients in Serbia. I am often a guest in the media, where I talk about current topics in healthcare and draw attention to prevention and early detection of diseases and advocate for healthier lifestyle habits of the population.
