Supporting the Global Response to Antimicrobial Resistance Through Innovation De Warande, Brussels

In collaboration with GSK, BritCham is organising an exclusive event dedicated to addressing one of the most critical global health challenges: Antimicrobial Resistance (AMR). Join us at De Warande in Brussels, on 10 October, and explore innovative policy instruments and initiatives driving AMR treatment and access to novel antimicrobials.

The UK and the EU are strong advocates of addressing antimicrobial resistance (AMR) globally, with both prioritizing AMR in their respective agendas. AMR causes about 1 million premature deaths annually, with estimates projecting 10 million deaths and a cost of US$100 trillion to the global economy by 2050. The pharmaceutical market faces challenges due to high R&D costs and low returns, impacting innovation and access to new antimicrobials. Policymakers must develop a global pull incentive structure of €2 to €4.5 billion per developer to tackle these deficiencies. Collaboration between public and private stakeholders, as seen in initiatives like the AMR Action Fund, is vital in combating this looming health crisis.

Invited speakers include

- Prof. Dame Sally Davies, UK Special Envoy on Antimicrobial Resistance (on-line),
- Dr Malin Grape, Swedish Ambassador on Antimicrobial Resistance (on-line),
- Prof. Dr. Dirk Ramaekers, Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Federal Public Service for Health, Food Chain Safety and Environment of Belgium.
Ms Olga Solomon, Acting Director for Medical Products and Innovation - DG SANTE European Commission.
