The European Commission pharmaceutical package includes a new directive and regulation for basic pharmaceutical legislation (Directive 2001/83/EC and Regulation (EC) No 726/2004). The goal is to improve access to medicines, foster innovation, streamline supply, adapt to new developments, and reduce regulatory burdens where possible.

At the European Parliament, the ENVI Committee approved in March some amendments, to be voted by the plenary in April, a week before this event.
