Podcast: Re-imagining Europe’s Future
29.10.20
Part of the 19 conversations podcast series, Nathalie talks about the gap between President von der Leyen’s aspiration "to help ensure Europe has the supply of affordable medicines to meet its needs. In doing so, you should support the European pharmaceutical industry to ensure that it remains an innovator and world leader"[1] and the current policy reality.
Now, more than ever, the devastating human and economic cost of the COVID-19 pandemic has underlined the importance of discovering, developing and creating access to new diagnostics, treatments and vaccines to respond to global health threats as well as meeting Europe’s existing health challenges and unmet medical needs.
Laying out her vision for the future, in the podcast Nathalie underlines that “EFPIA and its members stand ready to work with all stakeholders to develop collaborative solutions to access and availability issues as well as proposals to build on the success of Europe’s orphan and paediatric regulations and our IP and regulatory framework, in order to meet the needs of patients across Europe. She stressed the importance of “working with the EU Institutions and Member States to see how we can align the policy initiatives to support access to treatments and to ensure Europe has a future in medical innovation.”
