Passing Away of Dr. Alberto Sergio Aleotti, former President of EFPIA and former Chairman and CEO of Menarini Pharmaceuticals

Dr. Alberto Sergio Aleotti

It is with deep regret that EFPIA announces the passing away of Dr. Alberto Aleotti, a former President of EFPIA and former Chairman and CEO of Menarini Pharmaceuticals. Dr. Aleotti joined Menarini in a general management position in 1964, and had only recently handed over the management of the Group to his children, Lucia, Chairman, and Alberto Giovanni, Vice Chairman. He served as Chairman of Farmindustria from 1978 to 1986, helping to build the Association up from its foundation. He was then asked to serve as Vice-President of EFPIA, and subsequently served as EFPIA President from 1986 to 1990, and sat on the EFPIA Board until 2010.

Dr. Aleotti was a true entrepreneur who built Menarini into an international group, deeply convinced of the need of strong intellectual property protection for the pharmaceutical industry. As an industry and association leader, he championed intellectual property rights and an environment conducive for pharmaceutical research in Italy and abroad. He was highly respected for his contributions to fostering a European environment supportive of innovation and will be well-remembered for all he contributed to the pharmaceutical industry both within and beyond Italy. Dr. Aleotti is survived by his wife Massimiliana and his children Alberto, Benedetta and Lucia.

EFPIA members and the EFPIA staff offer their sincere condolences to Dr Aleotti's beloved family.
