EPAA 3Rs Laboratory Technician Prize 2015

This prize of €3000 will go to a laboratory technician who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in implementing and raising awareness of Replacement, Reduction and Refinement of animal testing.
PURPOSE
Laboratory technicians and animal caretakers carry out much of the work using animals for regulatory safety testing purposes and are thus closely involved in efforts to apply refinement strategies in such studies. The purpose of this prize is to target those actually implementing alternative approaches to animal testing and raise awareness of their role for the day to day application of 3R principles and, in particular, for raising opportunities for further Refinement. Refinement refers to improvements to scientific procedures and husbandry which minimise actual or potential pain, suffering, distress or lasting harm and/or improve animal welfare in situations where the use of animals is unavoidable
PRIZE
The EPAA industry partners sponsor a €3000 laboratory technicians prize every other year since 2013. The prize can be given to an individual or a team. The money awarded is a prize, not a grant, therefore it does not require any prior justification of how it will be used, even if EPAA recommends used linked to further promotion of alternatives (eg. Travel and accommodation fees for a conference, publication costs, etc.). The winner (team) will be invited to the EPAA annual conference to receive the prize and briefly describe his/ her/their contribution to the 3Rs.
APPLICATION PROCESS
Eligible laboratory technicians/caretakers should send their application by email to grow-epaa@ec.europa.eu before 12:00 CET on Friday 18th, September 2015.
