EFPIA launches blog series to back UN SDGs

The United Nations’ sustainable development goals provide the reference point for global efforts to improve the living conditions of those left behind by economic growth. These are both comprehensive and ambitious, they provide a challenging goal in terms of promoting and securing global health: “Ensure healthy lives and promote well-being for all at all ages.”

Most relevant to our industry sector is are the SDGs aims to achieve universal health coverage, including financial risk protection, access to quality essential health-care services and access to safe, effective, quality and affordable essential medicines and vaccines for all.

At EU level, it would remiss not to mention the European Development Days (EDD), Europe's leading forum on development and international cooperation. Organised by the European Commission, the forum brings the development community together each year to share ideas and experiences in ways that inspire new partnerships and innovative solutions to the world's most pressing challenges. This year, the forum takes place in Brussels, Belgium on 15-16 June.

The EDD and more fundamentally the SDGs, recognise implicitly the contribution that private sector engagement has played in addressing development problems and can play in future. Collaboration and partnerships are the key to success. Therefore, in a series of guest blogs aimed at boosting the profile of this crucial, global initiative, EFPIA is highlighting some of the areas in which our members and our partners are active in advancing the health-related SDG's. You can access all the blogs, the first of which was added on 6 June 2016.
