EFPIA welcomes the publication of the European Commission Communication on digital transformation of health and care
EFPIA and its members welcome the publication of the communication on enabling the digital transformation of health and care in the Digital Single Market by the European Commission. Digital technologies have the potential to help transform the way novel medicines are discovered, developed and delivered to patients. We believe that these technologies will enable the collection, integration and interpretation of healthcare data rapidly and at scale, creating the possibility for significant improvements in the lives of patients and offering efficiencies to the healthcare system. Digital technologies will support the development of new, more patient-relevant endpoints, enable personalised communication with patients and support the improved delivery of healthcare, and crucially empower patients in managing and monitoring their own health and wellbeing. At the same time, the full value of digital health solutions will require an enabling health data ecosystem, including infrastructure solutions, standards and a governance framework, facilitating the generation, collection, sharing and linking of high-quality health data throughout the health system. The European pharmaceutical industry is committed to maximizing the opportunities offered by digital technologies and looks forward to working with all stakeholders and European and national policymakers to ensure that these technologies are appropriately developed and put in use for the benefit of patients and society.
