EFPIA statement in following the call with EU Commissioner Kyriakides

Today, together with industry sister associations EFPIA met with EU Health Commissioner Stella Kyriakides, other relevant Commission services as well as representatives of the European Patients Forum, European Medicines Agency (EMA), the European Centre for Disease Control (ECDC) and the European Public Health Alliance to discuss Europe’s continued fight against COVID-19.

Speaking after the meeting, EFPIA Director General, Nathalie Moll said. “As we move from a weekly to a monthly schedule for these meetings, I wanted to thank Commissioner Kyriakides as well as Commissioner Breton and Director General Michou for their unyielding commitment to finding pragmatic, collaborative solutions that put the needs of patients first throughout the COVID-19 crisis.”

EFPIA also welcomed the inclusion of patient representatives through the EPF as well as the public health community through EPHA in the call. Nathalie Moll said. “From the supply of medicines to the patients that need them to the continuity of clinical trials, from the use of health data in COVID-19 related track and trace apps to the search for diagnostics, treatments and vaccines, it is essential that patients’ voice is at the centre of the collective fight against COVID-19.”

While our scientists and researchers continue to work around the clock to develop new diagnostics, treatments and vaccines for use in the fight against COVID-19, we will continue to work in partnership with the patient community, healthcare partners, the EU institutions and Member States to mitigate the impact of this virus and build Europe’s resilience to future health threats and our existing health challenges.
