Industry Statement on the earthquakes in Turkey and Syria

Like the rest of the world, EFPIA is saddened by the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.

As details of the scale of the crisis are emerging, a number of our member companies are working to protect supply chains and get vital medicines to existing patients as well as medical supplies and financial donations to those affected by the earthquakes.

Industry will continue to work with partners and authorities across Europe to provide further support where possible.

We are keeping those who’ve been impacted by the Türkiye and Syria earthquakes in our thoughts. The Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation, an independent charitable organization, is donating $1.1 million to longstanding relief partners the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies - IFRC, International Rescue Committee, Americares, and Direct Relief. Additionally, the Bristol Myers Squibb Foundation has matched USD 28k BMS employee donations globally to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies (IFRC) to aid earthquake victims in Türkiye and Syria.

In response to the devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria, MSD has been working to assist our colleagues in the region and ensure continued access to our medicines and vaccines. We have committed $1 million USD to relief efforts. We are partnering with NGOs to provide essential supplies, food, shelter, and clothing for earthquake victims, and we will be matching employee donations to eligible NGOs. As a company whose purpose is saving and improving lives, we will continue to monitor the ongoing crisis and remain committed to doing everything we can to support the recovery effort.
